From Fujiyoshida in Yamanashi, his 188 cm frame and dual identity, working as himself and as the menacing painted Great Muta, gave him a mystique few wrestlers ever achieve. His moonsault was a thing of beauty, and his refusal to quit even as his knees failed, reinventing his style to keep going, speaks to a rare competitive soul.
