Keiji Mutoh

Keiji Mutoh is, to me, one of professional wrestling's true artists. From Fujiyoshida in Yamanashi, his 188 cm frame and dual identity, working as himself and as the menacing painted Great Muta, gave him a mystique few wrestlers ever achieve. His moonsault was a thing of beauty, and his refusal to quit even as his knees failed, reinventing his style to keep going, speaks to a rare competitive soul. His Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame honor feels almost understated. He elevated the craft into something closer to art, and I find myself admiring him again every time.
