My Take
Kelly Hu is one of those performers I keep rooting for. She could have coasted on pageant looks and modeling, but instead she threw herself into demanding physical roles, from the seductive sorceress in The Scorpion King to the lethal Lady Deathstrike in X2. What I admire most is her presence: a controlled, blade-like stillness that reads as both elegant and dangerous. As a Honolulu-born, Pepperdine-educated Asian American actress, she helped widen a path that was barely there when she started. To me she represents quiet persistence over flash, and that earns my lasting respect.
