My Take

Kent Cheng is the sort of actor I find easy to root for because the recognition came through sheer craft, not glamour. A Hong Kong film and television performer born in 1951, educated at Ying Wa College, he won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor twice, which in that fiercely competitive industry is no small feat. What I appreciate is that he built a long career as a character actor and even directed, suggesting someone who understood the whole machinery of filmmaking. Two Best Actor wins tell me audiences and peers alike kept taking him seriously. That kind of durability earns my respect.
