My Take
Kim Shattuck's guitar always sounded like a fist in the air to me. As the frontwoman of the Muffs, she fused snotty punk energy with genuine pop melody, and her raspy voice gave the band a swagger that still holds up. Coming out of Burbank by way of the Pandoras, she carved her own lane in a male-dominated scene without softening her edges. Her death in 2019 was a real loss, but the records remain proof of an artist who played entirely on her own terms. I have nothing but respect for that.
