La India

La India's voice hit me the first time I heard it, raw and regal at once. A Puerto Rican artist who moved from house and Latin pop toward becoming a queen of salsa, she won a Latin Grammy for her album of Juan Gabriel songs, proof her acclaim is no accident. What moves me is not just technical power but the lived weight in her singing, joy and heartbreak braided into every phrase. I admire performers who refuse to stay inside one genre or one border, and her ability to make passion sound both untamed and elegant keeps pulling me back.
