My Take

Laura Ziskin is one of those producers whose fingerprints are all over the movies we casually love, from Pretty Woman to the original Spider-Man trilogy. What grabs me most is that she was the first woman to produce the Academy Awards telecast solo, twice. Producing is invisible work, the art of herding hundreds of people toward a single vision, and she did it with nerve. That she kept earning credits up to her final films tells me she never stopped being a hands-on creature of the set. I find that kind of backstage tenacity genuinely inspiring.
