My Take

Lauren James is the kind of footballer who makes me lean forward the moment she receives the ball. Plenty of attackers are fast or strong; very few make the game look like it has slowed down for them, and James does. Her route through Arsenal and Manchester United before settling at Chelsea reads like a player who was always too good for her age group. Born in 2001 and already central to England's attack, she has a touch and balance you cannot coach into anyone. My only worry is expectation, because London-born prodigies carry heavy narratives. If she stays healthy, I think she ends up among this era's defining players.
