My Take

Raine's Celeste soundtrack is one of the great pieces of modern game music, perfectly fusing pulsing electronics with delicate piano to mirror a story about anxiety and self-acceptance. What I love is how emotionally attuned her composing is; the music does not just accompany a moment, it becomes the moment. Her Minecraft additions slipped quietly into the most-played game on earth, and her Deltarune and Chicory work shows she can shift tone effortlessly. She also designs and develops games herself, which gives her a rare holistic understanding of how sound shapes play. She is one of the most distinctive voices in interactive music today.
