My Take
Liu Qiangdong's story genuinely impresses me. Rising from Suqian, a provincial city, then opening a tiny magneto-optical shop in 1998 before transforming it into one of China's e-commerce giants takes more than a sharp mind from Renmin University. What I admire most is his instinct for timing. Pivoting fully from brick-and-mortar retail into online commerce sounds obvious in hindsight, but very few founders actually bet everything on it at the right moment. He is, to me, the textbook self-made entrepreneur, someone who read the wave and dared to ride it when it counted.
