My Take
There's something about a basketball player coming out of Hiroshima that just makes sense to me — that part of Japan has this no-nonsense, sunny tenacity baked into it, and I picture Mai Yamamoto carrying exactly that onto the court. Born in 1999, she's right in that sweet spot where raw energy meets the kind of focus that only comes from years of actual grinding. At 163 cm she's not going to physically overpower anyone in a sport built around height, so you know she's had to outthink and outwork the competition from day one — and honestly that makes her more interesting to watch, not less. No splashy headlines in the data, no giant follower counts — just a player quietly doing the work. I respect that kind of athlete more than I probably should.
