My Take
Manny Jacinto is one of my favorite quiet success stories. Born in Manila, raised in Canada, and trained as an engineer at UBC before dancing and then acting, he carries an unexpected depth. Knowing that the lovable airhead Jason Mendoza on The Good Place was played by someone this thoughtful made me grin. I love seeing a Filipino-Canadian land real estate in the center of Hollywood, from Top Gun: Maverick to his menacing turn in The Acolyte. There is a calculated intelligence beneath that easy smile, and I suspect his most interesting work is still ahead of him.
