Manoj K. Jayan

Manoj K. Jayan strikes me as the kind of character actor who quietly props up an entire industry. Winning Kerala's Second Best Actor honor three separate times, for roles as different as Kuttan Thampuran in Sargam, the warrior Thalakkal Chandu in Pazhassi Raja and Kunjiraman in Kaliyachan, tells you he is no one-note player. I respect actors who chase range over fame, and his willingness to cross into Tamil cinema and even direct suggests genuine love of the craft rather than a hunt for spotlight. In a film culture obsessed with leading men, performers like Jayan are the connective tissue, and I find that role far more interesting than top billing.
