My Take
Margot Bingham impresses me as a true double threat who refuses to be boxed in. A Pittsburgh native who sings, acts and writes her own songs, she announced herself unforgettably as jazz singer Daughter Maitland in Boardwalk Empire, where her voice and presence felt utterly authentic. Then she stepped into the final season of The Walking Dead, proving she can cross genres with ease. Plenty of performers lean toward either music or acting, but excelling at both signals a rare inner steadiness. As a songwriter she clearly wants to speak in her own words, and I'm always drawn to artists like that. I think her best work is still ahead.
