My Take
Marie Fredriksson's voice instantly transports me back in time. As the soaring half of Roxette, she helped dominate global radio, yet what moves me is that she was a complete musician underneath the fame, a pianist and songwriter from a small Swedish town who happened to become a superstar. The ache in Listen to Your Heart still gets me every time. She kept singing through a long battle with illness, which only deepens my admiration for her strength. She passed in 2019, but that voice has not faded a single degree. A genuine diva out of Scandinavia, and one I will always hold in deep respect.
