My Take
Marj Dusay represents a kind of stardom that is easy to undervalue: the soap opera actress who becomes a fixture of daily life. Playing Alexandra Spaulding on Guiding Light on and off from 1993 to the show's 2009 end means she shared years with viewers, not just a movie's runtime. There is real intimacy in that, a familiarity most film stars never achieve. Her turn as Douglas MacArthur's wife in the 1977 film shows range beyond daytime too. To me, sustaining one beloved character across decades is its own quiet form of greatness, and a faithful one at that.
