My Take
Masato Shimizu is the kind of politician who doesn't make you think "politician" — born in Takasaki, Gunma in 1975, raised under those famously brutal Joshu winds that apparently produce people with serious backbone. He's not a headline-grabbing figure and that's almost the point: local politics run on the people who show up, knock on doors, listen to the same complaints for the fifteenth time, and still care enough to come back tomorrow. I don't know the granular details of his policy record, but a Gunma guy who keeps his roots and grinds for his community earns a base level of respect from me just for choosing that path over a shinier one.
