My Take

Maxence Caqueret is the kind of defensive midfielder I always end up appreciating more than the highlight-reel crowd does. A Lyon academy product who broke into the first team young, he does the unglamorous work of breaking up play and recycling possession, and at 174cm he relies on reading the game rather than physical presence. His move to Como in Serie A interests me, because Italian football demands exactly that tactical intelligence, and it is a real test of whether he can translate. Players like him rarely make the back pages, but coaches love them, and I tend to side with the coaches on this type.
