My Take
For me, Megan Follows will always be the definitive Anne Shirley; her 1985 portrayal shaped how a generation imagined the character. What I respect, though, is that she refused to be frozen in that moment. Decades later she reinvented herself as Catherine de Medici in Reign, trading wide-eyed innocence for ruthless court intrigue, and proving real dramatic range. Her move into directing signals an artist still curious, still pushing. I value performers who treat a beloved early role as a foundation rather than a ceiling, and Follows is a fine example of that creative restlessness.
