My Take
Michael Moore is a provocateur, and I mean that as a compliment. Coming out of Flint, Michigan, he watched the auto industry hollow out his hometown, and that grievance fuels everything from Roger & Me onward. The Palme d'Or and the Academy Award mark his standing, but what interests me is his refusal to be neutral: he picks a side, usually the working-class one, and argues it with humor and theatrical nerve. He's polarizing, and his methods invite fair criticism. Still, I value a documentarian who treats anger as a legitimate, even necessary, lens on power.
