My Take

What strikes me about Michael Sheard is how a Scottish actor from Aberdeen built a whole career out of being memorable in small doses. He's the rare performer who's both a Star Wars footnote and a household name to a generation of British kids, thanks to that stern deputy headmaster turn in Grange Hill. To me, the Admiral Ozzel cameo in The Empire Strikes Back captures his gift perfectly: he barely has screen time, yet you remember the face and the menace. Sheard passed in 2005, but specializing in villains clearly kept him working steadily for decades, which I find quietly impressive.

Overview

Michael Sheard (born Michael Lawson Perkins; 18 June 1938 – 31 August 2005) was a Scottish actor who featured in many films and television programmes, and was best known for playing villains. His most prominent television role was as strict deputy headmaster Maurice Bronson in the children's series Grange Hill, which he played between 1985 and 1989. He appeared as Admiral Ozzel in The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
