Míchel Salgado

Míchel Salgado is one of those right-backs who made you genuinely nervous to watch — in the best possible way. A Galician kid from As Neves who ended up patrolling the right flank for Real Madrid during some of their most electric years, he brought this relentless, combative energy that you just don't see from defenders who play it safe. His nickname "Il Due" is a bit of trivia that barely scratches the surface; what I remember is the overlap runs, the crunching tackles, and the sheer fearlessness he showed alongside Figo and Zidane. The Castelao Medal in 2012 was a nice local honor, but his real legacy is those late-nineties and early-2000s Madrid campaigns where he was an absolute handful for any winger unlucky enough to face him.
