My Take
Michelle Gomez is one of those performers whose range genuinely surprises me. She proved her comic gifts in Green Wing, then completely reinvented herself as Missy in Doctor Who, a role of unhinged menace and odd elegance that earned her a BAFTA TV nomination. That ability to pivot from broad comedy to gleeful villainy is rare, and I suspect it owes a lot to her Glaswegian wit and toughness.
