My Take
Miesha Tate is one of those fighters who made you genuinely care about women's MMA at a time when most people still needed convincing. Growing up in Tacoma and wrestling her way through Central Washington University, she built a career the hard way — grinding through Strikeforce, winning that bantamweight title, then stepping into the UFC spotlight where the rivalry with Ronda Rousey defined an era. That 2016 upset win over Holly Holm for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship was the kind of moment that stops your scroll cold: a rear naked choke, late in the fifth round, pure grit over flash. She retired, came back, kept competing — because when fighting is in you that deep, you don't just walk away. Tough, smart, and genuinely likable, she's one of the faces that gave women's combat sports its credibility.
