My Take

Monta Ellis is one of those guards I always loved watching even when the box score made coaches wince. He could get a bucket whenever he wanted, blazing fast off the dribble with one of the quickest first steps of his era. The 2007 Most Improved Award felt almost like an undersell for how electric that Golden State backcourt was before 'We Believe' became a thing. Yeah, he was a chucker and the efficiency debates were endless, but undersized two-guards who score 25 a night with no fear are rare. He never got the ring, yet he was box-office basketball.

Monta Ellis (born October 26, 1985) is an American former professional basketball player. A combo guard, he entered the NBA directly out of high school in the 2005 draft and made his name with the Golden State Warriors, earning the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 2007. Over his career he also played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers, building a reputation as a prolific, high-volume scorer.
