My Take

Mystikal is a reminder that the voice itself can be the instrument. Coming out of New Orleans, he brings a brash, rasping Southern delivery that grabs you before the lyrics even register, and that's exactly what I admire about him. Plenty of rappers write sharp verses; very few have a sound this instantly recognizable. He acts and writes too, but the throat is the weapon. His path has clearly had peaks and valleys, yet artists with a truly irreplaceable voice tend to keep finding their way back. I'd happily hear him return again. Originality like his doesn't get replaced, it only gets missed.
