I'll be honest, Inio Asano kind of ruined other manga for me. The first time I read Goodnight Punpun I had to put it down and just stare at the wall for a while, and that's basically his whole thing: photoreal backgrounds so detailed they look traced from a camera, then a single character's face that quietly guts you. Solanin nails that specific early-twenties dread of realizing your dreams might just fizzle, and Punpun goes somewhere much darker and weirder.
