Takanori Gomi

I'll be honest, Takanori Gomi is one of those fighters who made me fall in love with the old PRIDE era all over again. The man wasn't huge at 173cm out of Kanagawa, but the second the bell rang he came forward like his life depended on it, all pressure and bad intentions. That wrestling base gave him this stubborn, grounded toughness, but it was the swinging, fire-in-his-eyes brawling that earned him "The Fireball Kid," and the nickname fit. I love that he'd stand in the pocket and trade with anyone, win or lose, no backing down. His later run got rougher as the sport evolved past him, sure, but I still think of him as a guy who fought with his heart fully exposed. Fighters that fearless just stick with you.
