Nathan Sykes

I've always rated Nathan Sykes higher than the boy-band shorthand suggests. Within The Wanted, his was the voice that genuinely carried the vocal weight, and that becomes obvious the moment you separate him from the group's image. Diving into a solo career after the 2014 hiatus and topping the US Dance Club chart with 'Kiss Me Quick' proved the instrument was real, not manufactured. What I respect most is that someone so young, with that many miles already behind him, kept searching for his own sound rather than coasting on nostalgia. To me he's a true singer who happened to start in a pop machine.
