Ōikari Tsuyoshi

Honestly, the thing that gets me about Ōikari Tsuyoshi is the resume: a sumo wrestler who actually finished university first, at Doshisha no less. So many guys in that world go straight from middle school into the stable and grind it out as teenagers, so somebody who studied through college and then strapped on a mawashi just makes me sit up a little. There's something quietly impressive about choosing the dohyo the hard way, on purpose, with eyes wide open. And a Kyoto kid, no less, going from all that elegance and old-money calm into the sweat and slam of the ring. I don't know the flashy stories, but I'll happily root for a guy who trained both his head and his body and picked his own road. Steady, grounded, easy to respect.
