Oleh Blokhin

Oleh Blokhin sits in that rare tier of footballers whose names still carry weight decades later. Winning the 1975 Ballon d'Or as a Dynamo Kyiv and Soviet striker put him among the elite of his era, and I find his second act just as compelling. He moved from scoring goals to coaching and then to serving his country, collecting Ukraine's Orders of Merit across every class. Few athletes manage to be both a sporting legend and a genuine national figure. I see him as a bridge between an old footballing world and modern Ukrainian identity, and I hold him in real esteem.
