My Take
Pasquale Squitieri is the sort of restless, plural artist I always find fascinating. A Neapolitan trained at the University of Naples Federico II, he worked as a film director, screenwriter, and actor, and then crossed into politics outright. That refusal to stay in one lane tells me he saw cinema and public life as the same project by other means: ways to argue with his country. He passed in 2017, but a career that ran from the camera to the legislative chamber is unusually whole. I am drawn to figures who cannot be filed neatly under one occupation, and Squitieri resists every tidy label.
