My Take

I find Patrick Deneen genuinely interesting because he does the hard thing: he questions the assumptions almost nobody questions. Examining liberalism itself, rather than arguing within it, takes intellectual nerve and invites plenty of pushback. Whether or not you agree with his conclusions, a thinker who forces readers to articulate why they believe what they believe is doing real work. I value that his scholarship at Notre Dame weaves together philosophy, culture, and religion instead of treating them as separate boxes. The best political theorists unsettle you, and from what I can tell, Deneen is comfortable being unsettling on purpose.
