My Take

Paul Sorvino is one of those character actors I respect more the longer I think about him. Most people remember him as Paulie in Goodfellas, but what fascinates me is his range and his unexpected depth as a trained operatic singer. A Bensonhurst kid who could play both gangsters and cops with equal authority, he carried real gravitas in every frame. The Ellis Island Medal of Honor feels fitting for someone so rooted in immigrant New York. When he passed in 2022, cinema lost a voice that, quite literally, you could feel rumble through the screen. A genuine craftsman.
