My Take
Paul Walter Hauser is one of those actors who crept up on everyone and then absolutely exploded — and I mean that in the best way. I first noticed him as the lovably deluded Shawn in I, Tonya, and then he just kept showing up and stealing scenes everywhere from BlacKkKlansman to Cobra Kai. But Black Bird in 2022 was the moment the whole industry had to stop and reckon with him: playing convicted murderer Larry Hall, he was genuinely unnerving — soft-spoken, banal, and horrifying all at once. A Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy later, nobody's calling him a character actor in a dismissive way anymore. He's the guy. Born in Grand Rapids and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, and there's something grounded and un-Hollywood about him that makes every role feel credible. Genuinely excited to see where he goes next.
