My Take

Pete Way was rock and roll in its purest, most reckless form. As co-founder and bassist of UFO, he laid down the low-end backbone of a band that influenced generations of hard rock and metal, and his wild, leg-kicking stage presence made the bass feel like a lead instrument. His later work with the Michael Schenker Group, Ozzy Osbourne and his own bands proved he was always chasing the next stage. What I respect about Way is that he never sanded down his edges. He lived and played without compromise, and when he died in 2020 the genre lost one of its most authentic spirits.
