My Take

Peter Salovey earns my respect on two fronts. As a social psychologist, he helped pioneer the concept of emotional intelligence, reframing what we even mean by being smart, and that idea has quietly reshaped how we think about leadership and relationships. Then he spent eleven years as the 23rd president of Yale, steering one of the world's great universities through a turbulent era. From Cambridge to Stanford to New Haven, with honorary degrees from Harvard and Shanghai Jiao Tong, his career bridges deep scholarship and real institutional stewardship. I find it fitting that the man who studied emotions also had to manage so many of them at the helm of a university.
