My Take
Pierre Niney is, to my mind, one of the finest French actors of his generation. He became the youngest male member ever of the Comedie-Francaise, which tells you everything about his pedigree. But it was his transformation into Yves Saint Laurent that floored me, a Cesar-winning performance of astonishing precision and fragility. I love that he balances that intensity with genuine comic timing and a willingness to take risks. His turn in The Count of Monte Cristo proved he can carry a sweeping epic too. There's an electric nervous energy to him that keeps me leaning forward, and I'll watch anything he chooses.
