Rajan P. Dev

Discovering Rajan P. Dev deepened my appreciation for the sheer breadth of Indian cinema. Born in Cherthala, Kerala, he appeared in over 500 films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, a staggering body of work. What draws me most is that he made his name as a villain laced with humor; the actors who can be menacing yet somehow likable are, to my mind, the true craftsmen. He passed in 2009 at 58, but a stage-honed presence like his does not simply vanish. I have a lasting fondness for the character players who anchor a film from the wings.
