My Take
Roberta Williams deserves far more recognition than she typically gets. As a co-founder of Sierra On-Line, she helped invent the very idea that a video game could be a story you inhabit, not just a score you chase. In an industry that was, and often still is, overwhelmingly male, she carved out a role as a storyteller and visionary, earning an Industry Icon award along the way. I see her as the spiritual ancestor of every narrative-driven game we celebrate today. Her insistence that games could move us emotionally feels, in hindsight, decades ahead of its time.
