Robin Hobb

Robin Hobb is the kind of writer I deeply admire for sheer endurance and craft. Writing under two pen names and sustaining the sprawling Realm of the Elderlings across multiple trilogies takes a discipline most authors never muster. What draws me to her is not spectacle but patience: she builds characters slowly, letting emotional bonds and small betrayals accumulate weight until the payoff lands hard. The 2021 World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award felt like overdue recognition of a career spent honoring readers' attention rather than chasing trends. I respect novelists who trust the long game, and Hobb is one of the finest.
