Ronald Golias is exactly the kind of figure I love uncovering: a Brazilian entertainer who refused to be boxed into one craft. Comedian, film and television actor, singer, and painter, all at once. That combination tells me he carried an unusually restless creative drive, the sort of person who simply had to express himself through every available channel. Comedy that endures for decades is brutally hard to sustain, and clearly the Brazilian public adored him until his death in 2005. I never saw his work, yet across language and time I feel genuine affection for craftsmen of laughter like him.
