Saki Akai

My first reaction was cynical, so I may as well confess it. A 174 cm fashion model steps into a professional wrestling ring and I assumed publicity stunt. I was wrong. Saki Akai stayed more than a decade and finished as a wrestler rather than an attraction. She also carried the label of being former boxer Hidekazu Akai's daughter, which means every ring she walked into came pre-loaded with somebody else's story. Rewriting an inheritance like that through your own bumps and holds is a double shift. Born in Osaka and raised in Kyoto, acting and doing television work alongside it all. She has left the ring, but credibility earned that slowly does not expire with the job title.
