My Take
Santhosh Narayanan is, for my money, the most exciting thing to happen to Tamil film music in the past decade. Since his 2012 debut with Attakathi, his partnership with director Pa. Ranjith has produced scores that fuse street rhythms, hip-hop, and folk textures into something politically charged and physically irresistible. What sets him apart from many film composers is that his music carries the film's argument, not just its mood; you can hear class and defiance in his basslines. He remains underrated outside India, which I consider a temporary oversight. Anyone curious about where global film scoring is heading should start with his work.
