My Take

Santino Rice intrigues me because he refused to stay in his lane. A fashion designer by training, he became a television force first on Project Runway and then as a sharp, unfiltered judge on RuPaul's Drag Race. Coming out of Missouri with little but his own aesthetic, he turned taste itself into a personality. I think the eye that builds a garment and the eye that reads a contestant are the same instrument, and he wielded both with real bite. His blend of criticism and charm is exactly the kind of presence I find memorable rather than merely loud.
