My Take
Saori, born in Suita, Osaka in 1986, sits in the part of a band that audiences rarely credit properly. She plays keyboards in SEKAI NO OWARI, writes lyrics and music, and has also published fiction. That last item is the one I keep returning to. Plenty of musicians dabble in prose; far fewer treat storytelling as a parallel discipline rather than a souvenir of fame. Her training at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music matters here too. The band's public image leans fairy-tale, all costume and colored light, but underneath the arrangements are built with real structural discipline, and that combination is hard to fake. Whimsy without craft collapses within an album or two. What I think she actually does, across both the songs and the books, is world-building: deciding what kind of place a listener is standing in before the first line arrives. It is unglamorous, largely invisible work, and it is the reason the whole thing holds together.
