My Take
Sarah Hughes will forever be the queen of the upset for me. Going into the 2002 Salt Lake free skate sitting fourth, she delivered a fearless, technically loaded program that nobody in the field could answer, and skated off with Olympic gold. What I admire most is what came after: she didn't milk the fame but went to Yale and built a serious academic life. That combination of clutch nerve under the brightest lights and genuine intellectual ambition is rare. She proved a teenager from Great Neck could rewrite history, then quietly walked her own path. A champion I deeply respect.
