Satsuki Fujisawa

Curling looks gentle until you understand what a skip actually carries. Satsuki Fujisawa throws only the last two stones, but every stone before them is her call, and the blame for all of them lands on her. Born in Abashiri, Hokkaido, she led her rink to bronze in Pyeongchang and silver in Beijing, and along the way she pulled curling from a curiosity into something people in Japan genuinely follow. What impresses me is not the medals. It is that she keeps returning the season after a defeat, still willing to be the one who decides. Repeated exposure to blame is far harder than winning.
