Seiichiro Murakami

Seiichiro Murakami is the kind of politician who makes his own party uncomfortable. Born in Imabari, Ehime, in 1952 and educated at the University of Tokyo, he entered politics after working as a secretary, and under Junichiro Koizumi he carried a stack of reform portfolios: regulatory reform, administrative reform, the Industrial Revitalization Corporation, special deregulation zones, regional revitalization. At home, though, he is better known for dissent. In a system that rewards falling in line, he has repeatedly said out loud that he disagrees. You need not share his positions to notice that an organization with nobody like him stops hearing bad news.
