Shigeru Joshima spent decades as the leader of Tokio, and the role looked nothing like the usual idol-frontman job. He played guitar and sang, but his public image was built out of mud: farming, manual labour, absorbing the physical punishment on variety television so the segment worked. Then Tokio disbanded in 2025 and he carried on as an agricultural entrepreneur, which is the part I find telling.
