My Take
Honestly, the name Shimazuumi Sora hit me before I even read the details — there's something almost mythic about it, like a character conjured from sea and sky. Born in 1996 on Tanegashima, that rocket-launching island off the southern tip of Kagoshima, this guy grew up surrounded by the Pacific and somehow ended up in the utterly landlocked, completely singular world of sumo. The last name Shimazu carries the weight of the old Satsuma domain lords, which adds this accidental gravitas I can't shake. He climbed from a 2012 debut all the way to the top division, reaching maegashira 12 in 2024, and the arc alone — island kid, ancient sport, storied name — is the kind of story that makes you root for someone before you've even seen them fight.
